Exactly. You're not going to impress anyone with an Ion or MR1.
Play with what you feel comfortable playing with. What do you currently play with?
I know a guy who plays with a 98 custom and his only upgrade is a barrel.. yet he's good. Doesn't matter if you impress anyone or not, what matters is you're comfortable with what you have and you can play with it.
This isn't a good motive to have for paintball... it's nice, but at the same time, it's not a good idea to keep that in your head. You'll always find people above you in the paintball spectrum, and probably always people below you. You're never going to find a place where you can impress everyone, and odds are you won't do much to impress anyone else.
Lastly, Ion and MR1 both are not good choices for "impressing people" but they do what they are meant to do well: shoot paintballs.

Well like i said go try them out but keep in mind that these are 2 completely different guns the Ion being electro pnuematic and the mr1 being a blowback semi auto. If your looking for performance then jump on the band wagon and grab an ion but if you want something that stands out and play scenario games with get the mr1 but overall performance i think you will be much more happy with the Ion.
* Also a noob is a noob doens't matter if you play with a stingray or an angel people are gonna know if your pretty new to the sport so keep that in mind too.

Don't find a gun that simply impresses people. Get a gun that you like for its performance. People are more impressed by what you can do with the gun than what it looks like.
