Athletic Director and Principal face possible criminal charges ...for a secular blessing of a meal
Posted 17 August 2009 - 12:00 PM
I heard it on the radio today, and am currently looking for an internet article over such.
Basically, the Principal asked the Athletic Director to bless the meal of a banquet dedicated to investors of a new stadium, and was charged with criminally influencing Conservative Christianity on a school campus.
My opinion: The separation of Church and State is important, but this is ridiculous.
PS: There's more to the story, but I'm having to type with one hand and am getting a little frustrated.

~ Believe me, dear Sir: there is not in the American states a man who more cordially loves a union with his country than I do. But, by the God that made me, I will cease to exist before I yield to a connection on such terms as the United States Congress proposes; and in this, I think I speak the sentiments of America. ~ Thomas Jefferson (modernized)

Almost too easy!
..Yes, I know why your typing one handed, yes it was a joke, yes you should laugh. No, I don't have an opinion anyone here would value.

Looks at sig.
On topic: That's silliness. Really? Were they forcing everyone to pray?
Not letting the president speak at graduation is lame as well.

However, if you read all the way to the bottom of the article, it appears that this school has had legal issues involving prayer etc. before, so there is a chance that the criminal charges stem from a violation of a previous court order.
In other words - the school staff has been warned before. They did it again. Now they're getting pinged for it.
If that is the case (which is not clear) then that may put it in a different light.

Now then, the one thing I find utterly ludicrous is that they aren't letting that one senior class president speak because she is a "known Christian" and "might say something religious." Really? REALLY? Aside from the fact taht I wouldn't mind her saying something religious, they aren't letting her speak because she might say something religious. They can't just say, "Don't say anything religiously related because those are the rules," instead, they just ban her because she is a Christian and "might" say something. Might. There's a nice legal, lawyer, sensical term. Might. So, basically, because there is the possibility of her saying something religious, because she is a religious person, lets just not let her say anything. Something doesn't sit right with me about that. It sounds a lot like this, and I hope I don't get warned or whatever for this, because I do not endorse this thought, I'm just trying to make a comparison, please let me know if i'm out of line. So, if i were to say... Many terrorists are muslims. Terrorists commit terroristic acts and murder and etc. Therefore, Muslims=evil terrorist. So... some Christians say religious stuff maybe when they're not technically allowed to. She's a Christian. So, she=going to say something religious when she's not supposed to. I don't like connecting the dots with the word "might" It's a bunch of BS...
