As a previous field owner, I had the displeasure of having to cancell a two day game. On the Friday night before the game we got 8 inches of rain and completely flooded the field, parking area and camping. I, along with the game producer and several other up-standing people in the business all agreed that safety was an issue. We cancelled the game and everyone left... no one left angry or mad.... that we couldn't play. It was a weather/act of God that hindered that weekend.
As a player, I have had several games cancelled, not because of weather but because the field owner did not provide the field as promised. I am talking about fields promoting and scheduling a game without, 1. Proper insurance.... 2. Field not built... to what was promised.... 3. Part of the playing field leased to others, and "I forgot..." 4. No pre-regs... lack of interest... 5. Zoning issues... 6. etc etc. A field knows months in advance if there are any issues that might jepordize a game. If there are new owners... I am sure there might be a zoning issue if the previous owners had already known about them. "Well I haven't had time to erect those bunkers..." is about as lame as one can get. You don't have insurance???? Why not ???? Did you forget to send the check in..? Was "American Idol" on that day...? Did you suddenly get polio...?
What I am talking about is, YOU being a field owner not taking responsibility for not having your field up to standard and ready for play. Players plan for months in advance, schedule vacation time off, buy plane tickets etc. etc. and plan their lives around these games, only to have "Known issues" plague the game. Fix the problems before they arise... build those bunkers as YOU promised..... you can't fix mother nature, but you can fix human nature.
As a member of the paintball community I, for one, am dissapointed in these fields that treat the game as if it was just a "game". In the future, I am not going to even think twice about going to a field where the game has been cancelled because of "human nature". If YOU schedule a game have YOUR field ready, clean the staging area, pick up the trash, mow the grass, get rid of the junk that is laying around, show us, the Paying consumer that you really do care about YOUR field, the players and the game....! Correct the many issues that may plaque the game. Don't have insurance... get it..! Think you may have zoning problems.... fix it...! YOU think there might not be enough bunkers or the bases need a little attention....? Give the remote to your dog, put on a tool belt and go pound some nails.... and quit giving excuses...!
If you can't have YOUR field up to snuff for us, why should we play at your field........ ?????
