I've got a few friends who play airsoft, but they'd like to come along the next time we play paintball. They'd like to just bring their airsoft guns and play with those. Anyone ever mixed the two like that? Everyone I play with is pretty honest and good sports, so I don't think the honor system is going to be a problem. We're playing outlaw, so there shouldn't be any field issues. I can't see where we would have any problems doing this, but I thought maybe some of you had given it a try, or might be able to think of some possible reasons why this is or isn't a good idea. Thanks.

As long as you find masks that are approved for both airsoft and paintball. Some airsoft masks can't handle the larger paintballs, and some paintball masks have holes in them that 6mm bb's can slip through unobstructed.

Also make sure they understand that paintballs can really gum up, and with direct hits even damage a lot of airsoft guns.

and I believe airsoft guns have only semi or full auto. So while your reloading they are dropping pellets on you like crazy...just another thought

I think it would be really intresting to have airsoft vs. paintballer war...I mean, it would have to be honest people or the paintballers would have an automatic win as it would be extremely hard to prove that someone was hit with the pellet...I kind of wonder who would win though, I would assume paintballers in a speedball enviorment, but I'm really not sure what would happen in a scenario enviorment.

That sounds interesting just to watch. If you can record it and post it on here. I'd like to watch it.

Doesn't really seem like a good idea, the safety equipment is completely different for the two sports.

I think just a regular paintball mask would work. Remember in airsoft some people only wear glasses to protect their eyes. Paintball masks protect eyes + face. Even if a BB did go through a hole in a mask, it would be just like wearing the sunglasses...

These guys used to play paintball and have (foolishly) switched to airsoft. They sold their PB gear, but kept their V-Force masks and use those for airsoft, so I don't think the safety thing is much of an issue. I do wonder about the range difference. Do airsoft guns shoot farther? It's going to depend on FPS I'm sure, but as a general rule?

Very good question - airsoft is allowed to shoot at a higher FPS (and higher still for the bolt action or semi sniper rifles), but the projectiles are much smaller (6mm). I don't know, but assume that you might be a slight range disadvantage at the under 300 FPS paintball speed.

As long you play amongst friends, you should be just fine. In a more public setting, I find the airsoft & paintball mentalities to be fairly incompatible - not exactly oil and water, but close.
