Have you ever been stalking the woods, paintball gun at the ready, then suddenly you see something, but you’re not sure what it is because it seems blurry. Unfortunately, what you’re seeing are evil little spots of fog. Five minutes later, there’s condensation on the inside of your goggles and you can’t tell if there’s a fallen tree ten feet ahead, or if an enemy sniper is drawing a bead on you.
Equipment failure in the field just plain sucks, especially if it’s your mask fogging up on you. However, there is hope, and it comes in the form of an eagle! So sorry, just had a Wonder Twins power, ACTIVATE moment. Seriously though, a good mask to prevent this from happening is the VForce Profiler.
This mask is one of the better innovations for paintball safety. Not only does it look cool, offer you 290 degrees of vision, come with a mask bag, two visors, and multiple colors, it also features a lens switching system that is fast and easy.
Two weekends ago, I was so flustered when my old mask was fogging that I decided I had to do something about it. I did some research on the web, and found that people were giving the Profiler high marks in their reviews. I thought I should give it a shot.
I bought the olive and black mask, thinking it might help me blend a little better in the woods. The mask fits snugly to my face and head, without feeling overly tight. The sides, chin, and nosepiece of the mask are made of softer more flexible material, while the frame supports are a harder plastic. The field of vision is great! Not having to turn my head as much side-to-side is a big bonus for being stealthy. The Profiler is a very light mask, and is so comfortable that at times I didn’t even notice that I had it on. It also has very good chin and ear protection, and extra thick padding around the lens. But, the best part about this mask is the fact that it refuses to fog or allow condensation to form.
During my first use, the weather was kind of nasty. A stiff rain shower had blown through during the morning before the game, and it was getting warmer and more humid as the day went on. During my walk to our insertion point, I was praying that the money I’d spent on the mask was worth it. I slipped the mask on and started to move with the rest of my team into the dense tree line where we started our sweep.
The trees and undergrowth were really wet, and within minutes my pants and shirt were soaked. As we continued to move down through the trees, I began to feel the humidity rising. By now my Proto Switch mask would have been fogging, but the Profiler was crystal clear.
Suddenly, we made contact with the OpFor, and a firefight ensued. This is where the adrenaline really gets pumping, and my breathing gets heavier and faster. After eliminating a couple of the forward scouts, we started to push their line back, getting better and better angles on the other team. Eventually, we pushed them all the way back to their base. Over the course of twenty or so minutes of heart pumping action, the Profiler was still living up to its reputation. I sprinted towards their base to get close enough to lob a paint grenade in, but I took a goggle shot just before I could release it. But beforehand, at least I was able to see well enough to dash (or in my case, lumber) through the woods and find my target.
After the long walk back to the staging area it took a matter of seconds to remove the lens, spray it down with water, wipe it dry, and insert it back into the frame. The VForce Profiler offers a quick-change lens system that makes changing the lens the easiest, most convenient process on the market.
Needless to say, my money was well spent. The VForce Profiler mask is at the top of the food chain when it comes to performance, comfort, and durability. You can’t go wrong using this mask.
